Winter Classes 2017 @ Threads in Time

Basic Mitts:  (3 sessions):
Sat. Jan 7th, 21st & Feb. 4th, 2017 1:00 - 3:30 pm $69.

Learn to knit a basic mitt using a set of double point needles. Master knitting a thumb.

Supplies needed: 100 grams worsted wt yarn;  3.75 & 4mm dpn's; stitch holders and markers, a darning needle and “Next Steps Four Mitts and Gloves” booklet. This is a pre-requisite to the FIDDLEHEAD MITTS CLASS.


Advanced Beginner (5 sessions)
Wed. Jan. 11th, 25th, Feb. 22nd,, Mar. 8th & 22nd  6:30 - 9:00pm $109.

*requirements needed for this class are as follows:

You must know how to cast on, Knit, Purl, do ribbing, yarn overs, left and right leaning decreases, know KFB,M1 increase, knit in the round and bind off.

Build on your basic knowledge and add to your knitting skills.   Learn how to put together your knit and purl stitches to create interesting patterns such as moss stitch, how to do basic cables and how to read charts to create basic lace & learn a new cast on and bind off.  Supplies needed:  100 grams wool, 4.5 mm needles, stitch markers, cable holders, stitch holders, darning needle.  $5.00 fee for supporting notes.


Basic Socks:  (3 sessions)
Sat. Jan. 14th, 28th & Feb. 11th  10:00 - 12:30 $69.00

Learn how to knit a basic  sock using either a set of double point needles or a circular. 

Perfect the techniques of a stretchy cast on, turning a heel and doing the kitchener stitch for a professional looking and comfortable sock.

Supplies needed:  100 gm sock yarn, suitable needle size for sock yarn, stitch marker, stitch holder and darning needle.


Basic Lace/Spa Cloth: (2 sessions)
Sat. Jan 14th & 28th, 2017 1:00 - 3:30pm  $49.

Knit the Lacy Accents Scarf. Learn how to choose the proper yarn and needles for your project, how to do left and right slanting increases and decreases and yarn overs, a stretchy lace cast off and how to fix missed yarn overs and improper decreases as well as how to use a lifeline. Supplies needed: 100 gms DK wt yarn, 5.5 mm needles and pattern.


Beginner Knitting Class:  (4 sessions) 
Wed. Jan. 18th, Feb.1st & 15th, & March 1st 6:30-9:00pm  $89.00

Learn the basics of knitting or brush up on skills that you have forgotten. Learn how to cast on, cast off, knit and purl, do basic lace stitches, increase and decrease.

Knit a dish cloth, a scarf and a hat or cowl if you get your homework done.

Yarn: Sugar 'n Cream cotton for dish cloth; Regia Sport weight sock yarn for scarf. Yarn of your choice for 3rd project. Needles: 4.5 mm straight needles and circular in necessary length.  $5.00 fee for supporting notes.


Personal Footprint Sock: (3 sessions) 
Sat. Jan 21st, Feb 4th & 18th, 10-12:30   $69.

Learn how to knit a sock from the toe up, using a cardboard template of your foot for a perfect fit.  The heel is the simplest technique you will ever encounter.

Supplies needed:  Personal Footprint book by Cat Bordhi, 100 gms sock wt yarn, a 40" circular 2.25 mm needle, stitch markers and holders, darning needle.


Two Handed FAIR ISLE :  (2 sessions):
Sat. Feb 11th & 25th 1:00 - 3:30 pm $49.


Learn to use 2 hands to knit fair isle, (2 colour knitting) Learn the importance of colour dominance and how yarn placement affects the colour effect.

Supplies needed: 100 gms worsted wt yarn, 50 gms Noro Silk Garden or Kureyon yarn, a 16 or 20 inch 4mm circular and a set of 4mm dpn needles.


Double Knitting, Basics: (2 sessions)
Sat. Feb. 18th & March 4th 1:00-3:30  $49.00

Double knitting is a cool knitting technique that allows you to produce a double layer of Stockinette Stitch fabric with mirror-image colourwork while knitting both layers at the same time.

Materials needed:  2 colours of worsted wt yarn - one dark & one light,  4.5mm needles,  free pattern on “Basic Double Knitting Instructions by Cassie Castillo


Metalouse Shawl by Stephen West (3 sessions)
Sat. Feb. 25th, Mar. 11th & 25th

10 - 12:30  $69.00  (pattern is free on While you are on the site, please feel free to join the Threads in Time group and get messages as soon as they come in.  Skills needed:  knit, purl, slip stitch and increases.  You will learn how to slip stitches to get a feathered textural look.

Supplies needed: 40” 4.5mm circular needle or size to achieve gauge 18sts/32 rows

Top down shawl using self striping fingering wt. yarn 360m; and sport wt solid colour 240m.  recommendation Noro Taiyo, Kureyon Sock, Debbie Bliss Rialto sock or Zauberball for fingering and Louet Gems sport for solid.  Darning needle, 2 stitch markers


Catch Up or Finishing Techniques (2 sessions)
Sat. Mar. 11th & 25th 1 - 3:30  $49.

Come in with a perplexing problem or some part of a project that has stopped you cold.

Get help with an unfinished knitting project, ie. picking up stitches for bands, assembling etc.  You will be given you personal attention to complete your project, what ever it may be.


Basic Sweater: (4 sessions)
Wed. Mar. 15th, 29th, April 5th & 19th 6:30-9:00pm $89.

You will learn to follow a pattern, shape armholes, sleeves, neckband, buttons holes and edgings and sew everything up professionally.

Supplies needed: Miss Olivia sweater pattern, 150 grams dk wt yarn; 4mm needles, stitch markers and holders and a darning needle.


Fiddlehead Mitts: (3 sessions)
Sat. March 4th, 18th & April 1st 10:00 - 12:30 $69.00
Basic Mittens and Fair Isle Hat classes a pre-requisite.

Pattern is available online at Gauge is critical for proper fit.

Supplies needed: 3.25 to 3.75mm circular needles OR double points, to get gauge,

1 size only. Stitch markers, stitch holders and darning needle.

Yarn needed for outer mitt:  dk wt solid colour (125 yds) and sport wt Noro silk garden sock yarn (200 yds)  for lining:  (140 yds)  lace wt mohair is wonderful.


Entrelac Scarf (2 sessions)
Sat. Mar. 18th & April 1st  1:00-3:30pm  $49.00

Entrelac is a knitting technique used to create a textured diamond pattern. While the result resembles basket-woven strips of knitted fabric, the actual material comprises interconnected squares on two different orientations.  Entrelac can be knit flat (back-and-forth) or in the round for a cylinder.

Materials needed:  100 grams Noro silk garden sock yarn, 4mm needles, darning needle, Go to and look for free pattern, Basic Entrelac Scarf by Lisa Shroyer.




Brioche Basics: (2 sessions) 
Sat. April 8th & 22nd 1:00-3:30 $49. 

Learn basic brioche and terminology with extras thrown in, if time and ability allow. Supplies: “Flo” Scarf pattern by Jennifer Carter from Ravelry, if you like print off the “The Brioche Hood Hat” for some coaching on this project too.  2 pairs 4.5mm straight needles or 2 - 24” circulars 4.5mm375m DK weight yarn to knit a 50” long scarf. Extra yarn for practicing &removable stitch markers.

Sign up asap as class sizes are small to give you sufficient attention.
